Born in downtown Atlanta, Georgia at Crawford Long Hospital on the day after Christmas in 1954, Chuck has been a lifelong resident of the Metro Atlanta area. Hard working parents instilled a passion for life, learning and the motivation to achieve.
His early years were spent growing up in the Southwest area of Atlanta, where he attended West Manor elementary school and played Little League baseball at Adams Park. The opportunity of prep school at Woodward Academy in College Park was a great experience and it led to many wonderful lifetime friends. Graduation in 1972 was followed by four years at Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, Georgia and a degree in Economics.
Chuck’s father, Charlie Berry, was also from Atlanta and had established Berry Paint & Supply Company in the Lakewood Heights area of town. A need for more warehouse space was satisfied by the purchase of nearby Southside Lumber Company. Chuck spent Saturdays and holidays helping with the business and learning the responsibility and rewards of hard work. After graduation from college Chuck joined the family business and eventually managed the operations until he decided to sell it and move on to a new career in early 1989. His experience selling building materials, paint, hardware, and working with contractors for many years was a good background for occasional house renovations in the Lakewood and Grant Park neighborhoods of Atlanta.
Married to wife, Mary, since 1980, the family grew to include daughters Bree and Rose Lane. They have been happy living in Marietta, Georgia for many years.
