Atlanta Real Estate - Moving Tips

The time has finally come: you have found your dream home and have a closing date scheduled. The next step is to plan your move to make it as easy as possible. Most people don’t like moving because of all of the work that is required, but it will be worth the effort once you are settled into the home that you have always dreamed about.

By preparing in advance, you can plan the move to minimize the work and keep everything organized. Here are a few things to keep in mind to prepare to move:

Put Together a Plan To Prepare To Move

Life gets busy, and if you procrastinate and think that you’ll get it all done when you have time, then you might realize that you are rushing to finish everything at the very last minute. Instead of stressing over the last-minute details, put together a packing plan so that you are ready when the movers show up. By spreading out the packing over a few weeks, it is much easier and less stressful to finish everything that needs to be done to prepare to move.

Declutter While Packing

When you are packing up your belongings, it is a great opportunity to take assessment of the items that you own. Many people find that this is a great time to declutter their personal belongings. So, instead of putting everything into boxes that will be moved to your new home, it is a good idea to also make a pile of the things that should be donated or disposed of. As a result, you will have less to move into your new home.

Label the Boxes with Different Colors

With a little bit of organization in the beginning, you can easily prepare to move and mark the boxes so that you know where they belong in your new home. Choose a color for each room, and label the boxes accordingly. For example, you might buy several rolls of duct tape in different colors, and then put a piece of the tape on the side of each box and use a big marker to write what is inside. Use yellow for the kitchen, blue for the master bedroom, orange for the office, pink for the children’s room, etc. Then, color-code the bedroom doors in your new home to match the boxes, so the movers easily know where to set down every box.

Use High Quality Boxes

There is nothing more frustrating than having the boxes fall apart during the move. Look on sites like Craigslist or local Facebook pages to find gently used moving boxes, and make sure they are in good shape to store your belongings. The quality of the boxes will make a difference to keep your belongings protected and make the move easier.
