Selling your house in spring can be very competitive. Warmer days are just around the corner, and the real estate market tends to heat up as well. Getting your house ready to sell and making it stand out among the crowd will be very important if you decide spring is the time for you.
Spring is generally a popular time to sell in the Atlanta area. You’ve had time to thaw out from the frigid winter, and your focus turns to your home. Let’s face it, we all love living here in Atlanta and in Georgia during Masters week. Families also like to buy in spring so their children can finish the school year before transferring. If you’re selling your house in spring, there are some things to do to make your house stand above the rest.
Bring on the curb appeal
It’s one of those things you’ve probably heard repeatedly, but it can’t be emphasized enough: First impressions are everything in the eyes of the homebuyer. Mow the lawn, prune the trees and remove any signs of winter damage. Plant colorful annuals along the front walkway and in containers near the front door. Put pine straw under it if it doesn’t move!
Make your house look light and springy
Get rid of those heavy, dark-colored pillows and throws that kept you warm through the winter months. Focus on bright, vibrant spring colors: yellow, purple, orange and turquoise. Fabulous! Go to your local grocery store, a farmer’s market or your own yard, and put together some bouquets to place throughout the house. Open all the windows so the rooms appear light and airy.
Focus on the back yard
As soon as spring begins, thoughts turn to enjoying the outdoors. Having a pleasing outdoor area will make your home more attractive to buyers. Clean your back patio, grilling area and any outdoor furniture you have. Add pops of spring color by strategically placing containers of annuals around the patio. Arrange differently sized containers in groups of three for an aesthetically pleasing effect.
Start your spring cleaning
Regardless of which season it is when you’re selling, you should give your house a major decluttering and a heavy cleaning treatment. Not only is it one step toward packing up and moving out, but it gives potential buyers the streamlined look that sells houses. Thin out the clothing in your closets. Give unwanted clothes, toys and household items to charity, or have a garage sale. Eliminate all the extra clutter on your kitchen and bathroom counters. Power wash all the windows. Rent a carpet cleaner, or pay to have your carpets cleaned.
Work with a real estate agent
A professional real estate agent knows the pulse of the market and can give you additional tips to help you sell your house. The agent can also help you set the best price and market your house to sell it as quickly as possible.
